A Sub-Zero ice maker depends on more than the ice maker assembly. The freezer has to be cold enough, water has to reach the unit at the correct pressure, the fill path must be open and the controls have to complete the ice-making cycle.
If the freezer is too warm, ice production can slow dramatically or stop even when the ice maker itself is good. Sub-Zero recommends a 0°F freezer setting, and general manufacturer troubleshooting calls for the freezer to be at or below 5°F for ice production.

No ice at all
Check that the ice maker is turned on and that the ice bin is correctly installed. On some systems the bin or shutoff mechanism is part of the enable sequence. If the freezer recently warmed up or was turned off, allow enough time for the freezer to return to temperature before judging ice production.
Slow ice production
Slow ice can come from a freezer that is slightly too warm, low water pressure, a restricted water filter, a partially frozen fill tube, mineral restriction or an ice maker that is not cycling consistently. Ice production also takes time after the system is restarted or emptied.
Frozen fill tube
A frozen fill tube can stop water from entering the ice maker. That can be related to temperature, water-valve behavior or a local freeze-up. Clearing the ice without addressing why the tube froze can lead to a repeat complaint.
Water valve and water supply
The home water supply must be on and pressure must be adequate. Small or hollow cubes can be a water-flow clue. If the valve is not opening correctly, is leaking through or is being energized abnormally, ice production and fill level can both be affected.
Jammed ice or mechanical obstruction
A cube can jam the mechanism, the shutoff arm can be out of position or ice can freeze together in the bin. The exact layout varies by Sub-Zero series, so the model number matters.
Service Ice or other display indication
If an ice-related service message is present, record the exact icon or wording. The display information, freezer temperature and water-fill behavior together are much more useful than replacing an ice maker based on the message alone.
What we test
We verify freezer temperature, water supply and valve behavior, fill-tube condition, the ice maker mechanism and the related control path. That keeps a warm-freezer or water-supply problem from being mistaken for a failed ice maker.
