Refrigerator problems we repair
A warm fridge, a leaking cabinet and an ice-maker fault need different checks. We identify the cause before recommending a fan, valve, control board or major refrigeration repair.
01 / Cooling
Fresh food getting warm, a freezer losing temperature or food freezing in the fridge? We check actual temperatures and the systems controlling each compartment.
02 / Ice & water
We trace water to its source and distinguish a drain problem from a supply, valve or ice-maker fault. No ice does not automatically mean a failed ice maker.
03 / Noise & frost
Clicking, fan noise, recurring frost or a high-temperature alert are clues. We check the model, cooling performance and related components rather than clearing an alarm and guessing.
Built-in expertise. Everyday refrigerators too.
We service the refrigerator you have, not just one brand or price range. From a Sub-Zero behind custom panels to a freestanding kitchen fridge, the diagnosis starts with the model and the actual installation.
Classic, integrated and column configurations need a clear access plan. We assess panels, grilles, connections and working space before moving equipment, and explain the repair with the existing kitchen in mind.
Fresh-food, freezer and ice-making compartments can behave differently. Tell us which section is affected; we check the cooling and water systems fitted to that model.
We diagnose everyday kitchen refrigerators as well as premium models. A failed seal, fan, sensor or start component calls for a different repair from a major refrigeration-system failure.
Refrigerator columns, drawers and compact undercounter units are included. For a separate freezer, ice machine or wine cooler, describe the appliance when booking so the visit covers the right equipment.
Beyond “not cooling”
The useful details are which compartment is affected, when the problem starts and what has changed. An error code or sound helps guide testing; it is not a diagnosis on its own.
We check the cooling layout before deciding whether airflow, a fan, an iced coil or a separate refrigeration circuit is involved. Not every refrigerator shares one cooling system.
Settings, sensor response and cold-air distribution all matter. We distinguish food sitting in a cold air stream from a cabinet that is failing to regulate temperature.
Drain restrictions, fill problems, supply connections and door condensation can look similar at first. We trace where the water begins rather than guessing from the puddle.
Ice production and dispensing are separate functions. Temperature, water delivery, the inlet valve, ice maker and dispenser mechanism are checked as the symptom requires.
We examine door sealing, the location of the ice and the relevant fan, drain and defrost components. Clearing frost is not the same as correcting the condition that caused it.
Some running sounds and longer cycles are normal. A new pattern with rising temperatures, repeated start attempts or a persistent alert deserves a model-specific inspection.
Diagnosis before major work
Lost cooling can begin outside the sealed refrigeration circuit. We check the temperatures, airflow, controls and the model’s start device or inverter before recommending a compressor.
When testing identifies a refrigerant leak or other repairable sealed-system fault, we explain the scope and price. Repairs can include tubing, an evaporator, compressor or filter-drier, followed by the required evacuation, charging and performance checks. We do not present a refrigerant top-up as a universal fix.
From our refrigeration work
Selected photos from our existing Sub-Zero repair gallery. They illustrate our refrigeration work across the service area; they are not presented as four separate Santa Monica jobs.

Sub-Zero · Refrigeration tubing
The damaged line in this photo shows why refrigeration tubing must be inspected. Identifying the leak is part of defining the repair; adding refrigerant alone would not repair the opening.

Sub-Zero · Machine compartment
Access to the compressor compartment allows electrical and component checks. A failed start device and a failed compressor are different findings, with different repair decisions.

Sub-Zero 650 · Evaporator access
The evaporator and wiring are exposed here during diagnosis. Access helps us inspect the cooling components and temperature-sensing system instead of relying only on the display.

Sub-Zero · Ice maker
This assembly is accessible for inspection. Temperature, water fill, harvesting and controls need to be considered before deciding whether the ice maker itself needs replacement.

A straightforward service visit
We diagnose first, explain options clearly and focus on durable repairs.
Tell us the refrigerator brand, which compartment is affected, any display message and your Santa Monica address. Mention built-in panels or restricted access.
The technician troubleshoots the problem and explains the proposed repair and pricing before work starts.
We test the repaired system and cooling response, and explain any time needed for temperatures to stabilize. Completed repairs include our parts and labor guarantee.
Santa Monica service area
Same-day refrigerator service for Santa Monica homes in 90401, 90402, 90403, 90404 and 90405. Share the complete address and unit number when booking.
Refrigerator repair in Santa Monica
We serve Santa Monica addresses in 90401–90405, including Ocean Park, Sunset Park, Pico, Mid-City, Wilshire / Montana and North of Montana. The refrigerator and its installation determine the work—not a neighborhood label or an assumption about the brand you own.
Built-in kitchens. Tell us about custom door panels, cabinetry or a narrow opening. Leave the refrigerator in place; we assess access before moving a heavy appliance or disturbing water and electrical connections.
Apartments, condos and rental homes. Provide the unit number, entrance and any building-access requirements. Have the person approving the repair available. A clear description of the warm compartment, leak or error message helps us prepare for the visit.
While you wait for service
Do not wait for the appointment to protect perishables in a refrigerator that is no longer keeping them cold. A control-panel setpoint is not proof of the food’s temperature.
FDA guidance is 40°F or below for the refrigerator and 0°F for the freezer. Use an appliance thermometer when available. Move perishables to another cold refrigerator or a properly iced cooler if cooling has failed, and follow FDA food-safety guidance when deciding what to keep. Smell and appearance cannot establish safety.
Photograph any service message and note which compartment is affected and when the problem began. Do not remove panels, chip ice or pull a built-in refrigerator out yourself. Report an active leak or electrical concern when booking so it can be addressed appropriately.
Before you call
Yes. Same-day refrigerator appointments are available throughout our Santa Monica service area, 90401–90405. We are open daily, 7 AM–8 PM Pacific Time. Call to book a visit. A model-specific part may need to be ordered, so same-day availability is not a promise that every repair can be finished that day.
Yes. We repair built-in, integrated, counter-depth and freestanding refrigerators across major household brands. Sub-Zero and built-in refrigeration are an important part of our work, not a restriction to one brand. Share an unfamiliar brand and model when booking so we can plan the diagnosis and check parts options.
No. Local Appliance Repair is an independent repair company, not Sub-Zero Factory Certified Service or an endorsed representative of Sub-Zero Group. We service out-of-warranty equipment. If a repair may be covered by a manufacturer warranty, check the required service route with that manufacturer before authorizing paid work.
On models that share cold air, the fan, air passages, damper or frost buildup can affect the fresh-food compartment. Other refrigerators have separate cooling systems; several Sub-Zero families use independent refrigerator and freezer systems. The model and measured temperatures determine the diagnostic path. A cold freezer does not identify one failed part.
Not necessarily. We check the temperature where ice is made, the water supply and inlet valve, the ice maker and its controls. An ice maker that is switched off, a filling problem and a harvesting fault require different checks. Tell us whether water dispenses and whether ice is present in the bin.
Door sealing, moisture entry, airflow, drainage or a defrost fault may be involved; the pattern and location matter. Melting visible ice alone does not establish that the cause is repaired. Do not chip ice from hidden tubing or use a hair dryer inside the cabinet. Note where the ice appears and arrange a diagnosis.
No. Some clicks, hums and water sounds are part of normal operation. Repeated failed starts, a grinding fan or a new noise with poor cooling needs testing. We distinguish the start device or inverter, fans, controls and compressor instead of choosing an expensive component from the sound alone.
Yes, when testing identifies a repairable sealed-system fault. We explain the failed component and proposed work before proceeding. The repair may involve tubing, a compressor or evaporator and the associated refrigeration service. Refrigerant charging is part of an appropriate diagnosed repair, not a substitute for finding the cause of lost cooling.
Condenser care is important, but it is not a guaranteed fix for a warm cabinet. Sub-Zero recommends cleaning every 6–12 months on applicable models. We follow the model’s access instructions and assess temperature loss rather than assuming maintenance resolves a failed fan, sensor or refrigeration component.
The useful comparison is the diagnosed repair cost, the appliance’s condition, parts availability and the practical cost of replacement in the existing opening. A repairable fan, door-seal or start-system fault is different from a major sealed-system problem. We explain the findings so you can decide; age alone is not the answer.
Cooling response can be checked during the visit, but a warm cabinet and its contents need time to stabilize. Recovery depends on the model, starting temperature, load and work performed. We explain what to monitor and the next step if temperatures do not recover. Protect perishable food rather than relying only on the control-panel setting.
Give us the brand, model if easily accessible, symptom, any error message and the full address. Tell us about panels, stairs or a restricted opening, but leave the refrigerator in place. We explain the diagnosis and price before approved work. The service call is credited toward an approved repair; completed repairs include our parts and labor guarantee.
